FIRE INSPECTIONS
SYSTEMS & FREQUENCY
The fire systems and devices need to be inspected by certified inspectors at the frequencies listed below:
Fire Alarm Systems
- Annual - check initiating devices, remote annunciators, interface equipment, notification devices, control equipment is monitored, supervisory and trouble signals, and verify monitoring station is receiving signals.
Fire Sprinkler Systems
- Annual - check alarm devices and hydraulic nameplate. Test main drain, sprinkler valves, pipes, fittings, heads, escutcheon plates, and signage.
- 3-Year Trip - full flow trip test on dry pipe systems from Inspector's test connection.
- 5-Year Full Internal - internal inspection of sprinkler piping, obstructions, and check valves.
Fire Extinguishers
- Annual - check all mechanical parts of extinguishers, physical condition, proper pressure gauge levels, and ensure it is not recalled.
- 6-Year Maintenance - must be emptied of agent and cylinder inspected for cracks or excessive wear and tear.
- 12-Year Maintenance - same maintenance as the 6-year with the addition of checking the hydrostatic pressure.
Backflow Preventer Assemblies
- Annually - test 1st and 2nd checks, relief valve, visual inspection for cracks, corrosion or rust.
Fire Pump Assemblies
- Annually - check fuel (if applicable), circulation relief valve, main relief valve, power transfer switch, pump alignment, pump operation (no flow), and pump performance (full flow).
Standpipe Assemblies
- 5-year Flow Test - conduct a flow test to verify that the pressure (gpm) is at the proper pressure at the topmost outlets. If the Standpipe Assembly is a Dry Pipe then a Hydrostatic test is also required.
Kitchen Hood Suppression Systems
- Semi-annual - inspection of expellant gas containers, agent containers, releasing devices, nozzle and placement and coverage of nozzles, hose assemblies, ensure piping is not obstructed, replace fusible links.
- Annual - same as a semi-annual with the addition of clear out branch lines and verify blockages or leaks.
Special Hazzard Systems
- Semi-annual - test and maintenance of CO2, inert gas, and clean agent systems and parts, such as gas tanks, pressurized containers, valves, filters, and fittings.
